- The huge back scar recently revealed by Cruz Beckham’s new girlfriend could be the result of scoliosis surgery, according to a top orthopedic surgeon.
- Jackie Apostel, 29, shared a photo of the wound, taken shortly after she underwent surgery for an undisclosed spinal issue, with Instagram followers on Sunday.
- In an earlier post, the Brazilian songwriter, who is 10-years her 19-year old boyfriend’s senior, admitted she had lost her ability to walk following the operation, and had to relearn the basic motor skill.
- But experts believe the songwriter could have undergone surgery for scoliosis – a spinal irregularity that causes an abnormal curve in the spine.
- ‘It looks like scoliosis surgery,’ Dr. Dirk Eiwanger, an orthopedic surgeon based in Germany, told Bild.
- ‘It’s not uncommon for the scars to be so long. As can be seen here, from the thoracic to the lumbar vertebrae.’
- He added: ‘It is a complex procedure. Metal rods and screws are attached to the bones, thus straightening them. They stay in place. Recovery takes six to 12 weeks.’
- While Apostel has not disclosed further details of her surgery, she admitted the procedure left her bedridden.
- She told Instagram followers: ‘Random thought. Wild to think 3 months ago I was relearning to walk and couldn’t get up.
- ‘Physically and mentally I had a hard time, took forever to be ok with myself again especially work and writing wise.’
