“Last night, we had quite an interesting ‘guest’ at our patio door. After supper, a cute little beagle appeared and was whimpering and pawing for us to let her in. She had a collar with a red tag hanging off of it. I told Bob we HAD to let this dog in. It was 4° and -12° wind chill factor!
I noticed the tag said to call 1-800-PETLINK. They connected me to the owner who recently moved to High Hill, MO. High Hill is 43 miles from us! She said the dog’s name is Penny.
The owner was OVERJOYED and left work immediately (she is a nurse) to pick her up. Penny had been missing since Thursday at 1 p.m. We all have no idea how she got from High Hill to here.
Penny was shivering uncontrollably and had two icicles hanging from her mouth. I think she would have frozen to death if we had not rescued her. I cut up half a pork chop, combined it with mashed potatoes, and poured a little milk over that. She scarfed it right down. I gave her water, too. I put a bath towel in the dryer to warm and wrapped her up after she ate. I held her and she fell asleep and snored. She was exhausted! She was the sweetest little dog!
Even after the owner arrived, Penny came over to me. I think she was telling me ‘thank you.’ The owner reports Penny has BIG feelings. The owner said she has twin 3-year-old boys and they will be very happy to see her. They have another dog, Daisy, who has been crying /missing Penny.
What an incredibly happy ending to a miraculous story! It was fun being a foster dog Mom for a couple hours! Daisy is no longer depressed and is eating again.
This morning it is -1° with a -19° wind chill factor. I’m thankful Penny is home and warm with her family.
