Today, has been nothing short of tragic. Our journey started Sunday night when a truck was speeding down Scheline Lane and hit ReeOee. We took him to MCPAWS Veterinary Hospital and the break was not an easy fix. They gave us two options for further care. We brought him down to WestVet and had him treated. Cason began a Gofundme in hopes of raising $10k to do a femur repair surgery that would cost anywhere between $10-13K. We were faced with several options and one included amputation of the leg. We encouraged that option with Cason, primarily for cost reasons. He appropriately changed his Gofundme to $5k and agreed to fund the amputation surgery. He found stories of 3 legged dogs uplifting. We dropped ReeOee off at Eastgate Animal for the amputation. They told us 6-8 hours for surgery. We were delighted when they called us at noon. Cason thought he would make it back home for work. When we arrived they took us into a consultation room. We were then informed that they had in fact amputated the wrong leg. Eastgate Pet Clinic
We have spent the day in sadness, disbelief and absolute horror. We are dumbfounded and really quite speechless. We of course had to then make even bigger decisions than prior. This is painful and heart wrenching for Cason. If we lived in Boise it would be far easier. Cason is now taking ReeOee back to West Vet where he will be hospitalised until a specialist can do the original surgery and attempt to fix the break and save the bad leg since the good leg was tragically removed.
Cason needs more prayers than ever. His heart ❤ is so saddened. He wants to thank each and every person who contributed to trying to save ReeOee. This experience has been unbelievable and sad.
We as a family have experienced all the stages of grief today. Sadness, anger, and then I can add a little more anger.
Please continue to hope for the best for ReeOee as we plan for the worst. As the specialist said today at this point every decision and move is a bad decision and move. We have been put into a horrifying situation.
