I came across this old boy out on this evening’s run but instead of running away like they normally do, he just laid there without a care in the world. He was clearly unwell so I sat down beside him and as I did he shuffled over towards me placing his head against my leg. I talked to him and got myself comfy because for some reason this happens a lot to me and there was no way I was leaving the poor thing alone. I didn’t know what to do, I thought about taking him home with me but then I realised the best thing to do was ring an animal sanctuary for advice, but as I was on the phone to them I watched a tear run down his face and he went to sleep. I apologize for the sad story, but there is a positive outcome because as I sat there with him for a while I imagined what his life must have been like, he may have been close to 12 years old and I imagine it’s been full of mischief and adventure. Annoying farmers and dodging foxes, living life to the full and that’s exactly how I want to look back and remember my days, free and fulfilled. “One way to get the most out of life is to look upon it as an adventure.”
